Privacy Policy
Effective October 4, 2026
Storytime turns a text conversation you choose into a book. Your conversations are personal, so this policy explains, in plain language, exactly what the app reads, where it goes, and what never happens to it.
- Storytime reads your messages on your phone only when you pick a conversation.
- To write your book, the text of that one conversation is sent to an AI writing service.
- We do not sell your data. There are no ads and no ad tracking.
- There is no Storytime account. Your library and chapters are stored privately on your phone.
- Questions? Email timmiesue82@gmail.com.
1. What Storytime reads, and when
Storytime does nothing with your messages until you choose a conversation. You can bring a conversation in one of two ways:
- A backup file you choose. You export a conversation (for example with the SMS Backup & Restore app) and share or open that file in Storytime. Storytime reads only that file. If the file contains more than one person, you pick which one the book is about.
- Reading your texts directly (only on builds that offer it). Some test versions of Storytime can show a list of your text conversations if you allow the SMS permission. Before Android asks, Storytime explains what it will read. You can say no and use a backup file instead. When you tap a person, only that conversation is imported.
If you allow the Contacts permission, it is used only to show people’s names instead of phone numbers in the list. It is optional, and you can deny it.
The information Storytime handles is the content of the conversation you picked: the message text, who sent each message, and when.
2. How your book gets written
When you ask Storytime to write your book, the text of the conversation you selected (and the name you want to be called in it) is sent over an encrypted connection to Storytime’s writing service. That service passes it to an AI writing provider (currently xAI) to draft the chapters, and returns the chapters to your phone.
- Only the conversation you selected is sent, never your whole inbox, and very long threads are trimmed to fit.
- Storytime’s writing service does not save your messages or your chapters. It passes them through and sends the result back.
- The AI provider processes the text to produce your chapters, under its own terms and privacy policy.
- The AI is instructed not to put phone numbers or street addresses into your book.
3. Where your data is stored
- Imported messages and finished chapters are kept in Storytime’s private storage on your phone, which other apps cannot read.
- Temporary copies made while importing are deleted once the import finishes.
- Storytime opts out of Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so your library is not copied to the cloud by the app.
- There is no Storytime account and no Storytime server-side copy of your messages.
4. What we never do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your data.
- We do not show ads, and we do not use your messages for advertising or profiling.
- We do not read conversations you did not pick.
- We do not send texts, make calls, or contact anyone on your behalf.
5. Payments
Storytime is free to download, with a free Chapter 1 preview. When paid books become available, purchases are handled by Google Play. Storytime does not receive or store your card details.
6. Your choices and deleting your data
- You can deny or revoke the SMS and Contacts permissions at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Storytime → Permissions. The backup-file option still works.
- To delete everything Storytime stored, clear the app’s storage (Settings → Apps → Storytime → Storage → Clear data) or uninstall the app.
- Because we keep no account or server copy, there is nothing else for us to delete. If you have any question or request, email us and we will help.
7. Other people in your conversations
Your conversations include messages from other people. Please use Storytime thoughtfully, and only share a finished book with others when you are comfortable that the people in it would be too.
8. Children
Storytime is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
9. Changes to this policy
If the way Storytime handles your data changes, we will update this page and the effective date above before the change takes effect in the app.
10. Contact
